Be an Advocate! Speak Out for the Sake of Equality

Metro DC PFLAG advocates for LGBTQ equality through civil rights legislation and legal protections.

LGBTQ people face discrimination at school, on the job, and in their family lives. They are more likely than their peers to be harassed at school, to be the victims of violent hate crimes, to be turned down for employment, to be fired, and to be asked to leave their religious communities. Many of us feel the need to speak out on behalf of our children and friends who are unjustly deprived of fundamental human and civil rights. That’s why advocacy is an important part of PFLAG’s mission.

Let your views be heard!

Take advantage of opportunities to support equal rights and treatment for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, and questioning youth and adults. Throughout the year, Metro DC PFLAG is asked to provide testimony at school boards, city and county council meetings and, occasionally, state and federal legislative hearings. The people that invite us are most interested in having citizens from their district testify. In addition to testifying at public hearings, calls, emails, and letters are very effective.
