URGENT: FCPS Gender Identity Policy

Dear Family and Friends of Metro DC PFLAG,
Our Fairfax community needs our help. On May 7th the Fairfax County Public School (FCPS) board is considering a proposal to expand the district’s nondiscrimination policy to include gender identity. However, opposition has arisen and is influencing this amazing passage of acceptance to our LGBTQ youth in Fairfax County. The proposed policy will protect employees and students regardless of gender identity. PFLAG believes in non-discriminatory policy that ensures the mental health of all students and youth, as our LGBTQ youth are faced with high rates of depression and suicidal thoughts.
Help us by signing the following PETITION and by emailing the Fairfax County Public Schools’ board as well: fairfaxcountyschoolboard@fcps.edu.
Support by showing up to Luther Jackson Middle School 3020 Gallows Road, Falls Church, VA 22042 on Thursday, May 7th at 7:00 PM. If you’re with a group, have a group representative to sign up to speak and then have the rest of your group stand. If you can’t go on the 7th, the school board NEEDS to hear from you. Sign the Petition!!
Thank You,
“As marriage equality sweeps this country, I believe we are going to find more persons, our neighbors, who are LGBTQ or transgender having the freedom to live their lives authentically.  However, I don’t envision a tsunami of trans kids begging to go in the bathroom of their choice!!!  These matters involve deep issues of identity from an early age.” – Cathy Baskin, Ravensworth Baptist Church Member
