What can you expect?

You can expect that there will be people who are at differing stages in their understanding, acceptance, and support of their LGBT loved ones. You can expect to meet people who have developed meaningful friendships through their attendance at monthly PFLAG meetings. And you can expect to be warmly welcomed.

Meetings are usually kept to an hour to an hour-and-a-half and agendas vary month to month and group to group, but usually include:

  • Support discussions
  • Educational Activity: such as a guest speaker, panel discussion or “topic of the month”
  • Discussion of advocacy efforts in the local community on behalf of LGBTQ friends and family members
  • We meet in groups of 10-12 people which are lead by trained facilitators
  • All conversations with the groups are considered confidential and are not discussed beyond the room
  • Refreshments and social time

Who should attend?

  • A lesbian, gay bisexual or transgender person thinking about coming out of the closet or
  • struggling with your sexuality
  • The parent or family member of someone who has recently come out to you and you are
  • with the news
  • The parent of an LGBT child who wants to support someone else who is going through the
  • same experience
  • The parent or family member who fully accepts their LGBT loved one and wants to learn more about how to be a supportive ally
  • An out and proud lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender person and wants to support and
  • educate other LGBT people and their families
